According to the town's unofficial tally from the special election regarding the future of Great Meadowbrook Farm, 830 people voted against the special permit for the race track, outnumbering the 312 yes votes in favor of the track, in addition to four blank ballots. e voter turnout in town was 1,146 res. e special election was held to decide what to do with Great Meadowbrook Farm, once Goodfield Dairy Farm, aer the selectmen in town held three separate votes with separate outcomes in regards to the proposed horse breeding and training facility, sanctuary for retired racehorses, and race track called the Commonwealth Equine and Agricultural Center. e people behind it include Richard Fields, one of the former owners of Suffolk Downs in Revere e project has a purchase-and-sale agreement in place ending in February, otherwise the 395-acre property will continue to be owned by Weidong "Wilson" Wang, the owner of Baba Sushi in Worcester, who purchased the farm in 2021. Former BJ's HQ in Westborough sells for $32M e former headquarters of BJ's Wholesale Club at 25 Research Drive in Westborough was sold on Jan. 13 for $32 million, a few months aer a redevelopment plan was approved for the site. e buyer was Westborough Research Investments, LLC. at entity is registered to a California real estate attorney, Brian Aronson of the law firm Mayer Brown in Los Angeles. In 2022, Boston developer Samuels & Associates proposed demolishing the buildings at 25 and 29 Research Drive to build four buildings totaling 715,000 square feet as a life sciences, office, and manufacturing campus. e proposal was approved in September, which was first reported by the Community Advocate. BJ's Wholesale Club moved its headquarters to 350 Campus Drive in Marlborough in October. French pharmaceutical company to open 15K-sq.-ft. Devens center French pharmaceutical company Seqens will unveil its new research and development center in Devens on January 31. e new facility will be roughly 15,000 square feet and used for discovery and development of new drugs and therapeutics. e multinational company has 24 manufacturing sites and 10 research and development centers. e new facility comes one year aer SK Capital Partners of New York City became majority shareholder in the company in December of 2021 and subsequently merged Seqens with Wavelength Pharmaceuticals of Israel.
