Grossman Development plans to build 78,000 square feet of retail space, along with 269 luxury residential units, the company said. A company linked to Grossman Development acquired 10 acres at 3313-3333 Berlin Turnpike from Rocky River Realty Co., for $2.79 million. The project, called Meadow Commons, spans 24 acres. Grossman announced that it has leases with an unnamed national grocer, which will anchor the property, along with Sally's Apizza, Shake Shack, cookie shop Crumbl and PJ's Coffee. There is a Stew Leonard's store less than a third of a mile from the site. The housing is being developed by Criterion Development and will feature a fitness center, indoor garden and clubhouse. The first retail store is expected to open late summer 2023. RENDERING | CONTRIBUTED The Meadow Commons mixed-use development at 3313-3333 Berlin Turnpike, Newington. Upscale, amenity-rich Cambria Hotel opens near Evergreen Walk in South Windsor Cambria Hotel has opened its second location in Connecticut near the Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor. The upscale hotel — with ameni- ties that include an indoor heated pool, outdoor patio with firepits, and rooms with LED lighting, Keurig coffee machines and spa-like bathrooms — is a brand of Choice Hotels International. The state's first Cambria Hotel opened in New Haven earlier this year. The 73,276-square-foot South Windsor location spans four stories with 108 rooms at 1000 Long Leaf Lane. One of CT's largest home-care companies sold Farmington-based Companions and Homemakers, one of the state's largest providers of in-home care, has sold its business to two separate companies. Companions and Homemakers has sold its private pay division to TheKey, a national home-care company with existing operations in Connecticut. Companions sold its Medicare business to Georgia-based Accord- Care, which operates Companions Forever LLC in Newington. Financial terms weren't disclosed. The sale of both divisions consti- tutes the entire Companions and Homemakers company, officials said. With commercial interest lacking, Colt Gateway developers seek to convert more space to apartments With commercial interest lagging in the redevelopment of the former Colt Firearms complex in Hartford, the Colt Gateway Partnership is leaning into the more successful residential sector with the creation of more apartments. HBJ FILE PHOTO The developer, led by Larry Dooley, has received local permits needed for the creation of 45 apartments in portions of two buildings, according to a brief by the Capital Region Development Authority. The Colt campus includes 10 buildings on a 17-acre campus on the southwestern edge of downtown Hartford. The CRDA has been asked to supply a $1.5-million loan to help pay the anticipated $6.7 million cost of the pending apartment conversion. Plans call for creation of 11 studio apartments, three one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom apartments in "Building L," along with one studio apartment and 28 one-bedroom apartments in "Building East." Construction is anticipated to last 12 to 15 months, according to CRDA. So far, Colt Gateway has 205 apartments in its mixed-use rede- velopment. As of about a year ago, about 60% of the space was set aside for commercial development, with the remainder as residential.
