In 2019, only 5.6% of Connecti- cut-based employees reported working from home, according to the data. At the same time, the number of workers whose jobs were located in Connecticut increased from 92.5% in 2019 to 94.1% in 2021, likely due to travel restrictions, along with an increase in residents employed by companies outside the state who began working from home, the report says. Severe winter could strain power grid amid natural gas shortage The operator of New England's power grid, ISO New England Inc., says the region could face a strain this winter as it competes with European countries for shipments of liquefied natural gas, according to the Wall Street Journal. The grid relies on natural gas imports to supply New England with electricity during the winter months. ISO New England told the news- paper that an extremely cold winter could result in "rolling blackouts to keep electricity supply and demand in balance," according to the report. Severe winter weather could create a need for spot-market purchases as Russia has stopped most of its shipments to Europe amid the war in Ukraine. UConn partnership to launch climate change venture studio The University of Connecticut, R/GA Ventures and CTNext announced a multiyear initiative to identify climate change and sustainability startups. The three entities will launch the Future Climate Venture Studio, which will offer startups financial capital and networking connections to business strategists, technolo- gists, designers and consultants. The startups will focus on alter- native energy, planetary resilience and decarbonization. R/GA Ventures is a New York City- based startup accelerator. Aer Lingus to resume service at Bradley International Airport next year Nonstop service between Bradley International Airport and Dublin, Ireland — the Windsor Locks airport's only direct flight to Europe — will return following a pause due to the pandemic, Gov. Ned Lamont and the Connecticut Airport Electric vehicle showroom part of Newington mixed-use proposal A developer is planning a gas station, car wash and convenience store along with an electric vehicle showroom and service station on an undeveloped site at 751 Russell Road, Newington. The application, submitted to the town by Kevin Solli and Solli Engineering, calls for develop- ment of the nearly 9-acre site in the Business-Berlin Turnpike Zoning District. The gas station will have 12 stations for fueling and eight for electric vehicle charging, along with a car wash. The proposed 8,400-square-foot convenience store will also feature an ice cream shop, fast food restaurant, drive-thru window and outdoor seating area. A 23,500-square-foot electric vehicle showroom and service center is also proposed for the site. A rendering of the mixed-use development proposed for Russel Road in Newington. RENDERING | CONTRIBUTED Authority announced. Aer Lingus will resume the daily international flight starting March 26, 2023. It will run on a seasonal basis through October until year-round demand is realized, officials said. The service will use an Airbus A321neo LR aircraft, which features business and economy class cabins. From Dublin, travelers can connect with flights to 28 airports in the U.K. and Europe, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome and Prague. Kaman picked to build unmanned aircraft system for Marines A division of Bloomfield-based aerospace manufacturer Kaman Corp. announced that it was selected to build a logistics unmanned aircraft system prototype for the U.S. Marine Corps. As part of the contract, Kaman Air Vehicles will build a military version of its KARGO UAV, an unmanned aircraft that the company calls a "purpose-built autonomous medium-lift logistics vehicle." Once the prototype is constructed, the KARGO UAV will complete a "Field User Capability Assessment" in a test environment. Kaman's KARGO UAV carries up to 800 pounds of payload and is designed to operate in austere environments, the company said. Kaman began developing the aircraft last year. Walgreens parent to fully acquire Hartford healthcare tech company CareCentrix Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., parent company to Walgreens, announced it will follow up on its August purchase of a controlling stake in CareCentrix, by purchasing the remaining shares of the Hartford-based healthcare technology company. Walgreens Boots, which is head- quartered in Illinois, announced in early September it had invested $300 million for a 55% stake in CareCentrix, a company that had been one of the fastest growing in Hartford over the past decade. Headquartered in Illinois, Walgreens Boots has sealed an agreement to buy out the remaining 45% stake for approximately $392 million. Founded in 1996, CareCentrix uses advanced analytics technology to coordinate at-home care for about 19 million patients, working with health insurers, health systems and a network of companies that provide in-home nursing, social work and other services.
