B I Z 23 O C T O B E R 1 7 , 2 0 2 2 SCARBOROUGH CONTRACTOR HAS A LOT OF STEEL GOING UP IN PORTLAND Landry/French Construction, which is based in Scarborough, has two major projects underway in Portland -— both with a lot of steelworking being hoisted into place. At 201 Federal St., the firm is manag- ing construction of a 263-unit apartment complex. The steel structure is in place — and makes up the bones of what will be Maine's tallest building, at 18 stories and 201 feet. For many years, the Franklin Towers public housing building on Munjoy Hill held the crown as Maine's tallest, at 175 feet. The new building will include 263 mar- ket-rate apartments, a 2,100-SF fitness room and a commercial office suite on the lower level. A 1,500-square-foot "sky lounge" is planned on the top floor. The second floor will have a 3,000-square-foot shared lounge with coworking desks and other spaces. The developer is Redfern Properties. Design is by Ryan Senatore Architecture. Other firms involved include Structural Integrity and Acorn Engineering.The owner's rep is Cordjia Capital Projects Group. Financing was provided by NBT Bank, Machias Savings Bank and Bank of New Hampshire. The project, whose cost will be $64 million, is on track for completion next year. Not far away, on the former Rufus Deering Lumber Co. site, at 383 Commercial St., steel is going up on phase two of Hobson's Landing, which will be 160,000 square feet and seven stories. The building will have 63 condominium units. The first floor will have four retail spaces with additional retail space on the third floor. There will also be a parking garage. The team is made up of developer Reger Dasco Properties, sales agent Town & Shore Real Estate and designer Archetype Architects. Hobson's Landing, which is being built at a cost of $44 million, is expected to be online by December 2023. OTHER PROJECTS UNDERWAY Knowles Industrial Services, of Gorham, is handling exterior masonry upgrades on historic Custom House in Portland. Alrig USA, which is based in Bingham Farms, Mich., is building a Chipotle site on U.S. Route 1 in Saco, at Smith Lane. Zachau Construction, of Freeport, is com- ing down the home stretch with the 12,900-square-foot showroom for Morong Porsche in Falmouth.
