Simsbury Performing Arts Center expansion approved A roughly 3,000-square-foot addition to the Simsbury Meadows Performing Arts Center has received zoning approvals from the town and is expected to begin this fall. The upgrade will transform the facility at 22 Iron Horse Blvd., into a "truly professional venue with all the appropriate infrastructure needed to attract outdoor promoters, rental clients and even enable the (center) to affordably produce its own shows," the applicant, Bill Clegg, project manager with JLC Interiors, wrote. Real gross domestic product decreased in 40 states and the District of Columbia in the second quarter of 2022, with the percent change in real GDP ranging from 1.8% in Texas to –4.8% in Wyoming, BES data shows. The finance and insurance industry was the leading contributor to the decrease in Connecticut, which expe- rienced the second-largest decrease in the country, according to BES. State officials noted the economic news wasn't all bad. For example, the Bureau of Economic Analysis revised its first quarter GDP estimate for Connecticut from a 1.4% decline to a 5.5% increase, one of the strongest growth rates in the country. And over the past 12 months, Connecticut's real GDP growth of 1.2% ranks 24th of 50 states. Boston bioscience company to relocate headquarters, lab to Woodbridge A clinical-stage nonprofit biotech- nology company, Cure Rare Disease, has acquired its first laboratory space in Woodbridge. The organization will relocate its Boston headquarters to the 30,000-square-foot facility at 4 Research Drive and expand its research and development opera- tions. The company plans to lease 15,000 square feet to other life science and healthcare firms. Cure Rare Disease develops therapeutics for rare and ultra-rare neuromuscular diseases, such as two rare types of muscular dystrophy, known as Duchenne and Becker. Company founder and CEO Rich Horgan's brother, Terry, was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 1999. There is no cure, but Horgan hopes to change that. The space will be renovated through the end of 2022 and into 2023, with New Haven firm Svigal+Partners overseeing the architectural work. Large West Hartford office complex plans mixed-use redevelopment, starting with new Starbucks A lawyer representing the owner of West Hartford's largest office complex says plans to open a Star- bucks are a prelude to a mixed-use redevelopment that will expand a medical building and, eventually, include new housing. Corporate Center West Associates LLC owns a 140,370-square-foot office building on nearly 14 commer- cially zoned acres at 433 South Main St. It has filed an application to amend a special development district and break off a 1-acre parcel for use by a new Starbucks. This is the first step in a broader mixed-use development of 433 South Main St., and two abutting properties.
