20 HARTFORDBUSINESS.COM | October 10, 2022 Health plans and providers collaborate to create more personalized care for patients. Over the years, the health care ecosystem has been expanding with new stakeholders that go beyond the traditional roles of payers and providers. In a growing and crowded industry, the need for care coordination is far greater than ever before to keep the patient's health at the center of care. In a recent SPH study polling health plans and providers, more than 94 percent of respondents believe the key to success is improved collaboration. To improve health care delivery and costs for patients, coming together and finding synergies is key. Here are three ways why having a health plan built with, and guided by, local doctors' benefits members: 1. More teamwork between your doctors and health plan. The health care system has been proven to be confusing to navigate and can be nuanced for those who are relying on Medicare, especially when it comes to trying to find out important information about how to assess your coverage options. A recent study found that only 45 percent of Medicare beneficiaries reviewed their coverage options at least once every year. Beyond the complexities of finding the right health insurance plan as you age, there's little coordination between providers and insurers – which can adversely affect patients' health and happiness. 2. Care coordination between doctors and insurers creates better health care experiences. To help Medicare beneficiaries understand their plan benefits and how to select a plan to best fit their health needs, doctors and health plans must partner together to help improve health insurance literacy and create a community that will help members navigate their own care with ease. When medicine and insurance work as one, and doctors receive full support from health plans to take the lead in taking care of patients, better health care experiences are possible. 3 benefits of a Medicare Advantage plan built with and guided by Connecticut doctors
