Favorite quote: I have two: "No organization can depend on genius; the supply is always scare and unreliable. It is the test of an organization to make ordinary human beings perform better than they seem capable of, to bring out whatever strength there is in its members, and to use each person's strengths to help all oth- ers perform. The purpose of an organization is to enable common people to do uncommon things." — Peter Drucker "The Man in the Arena" speech by Theodore Roosevelt, because we all know the critic doesn't count. Influential book: A book suggested to me very early in my career was "The Five Temptations of a CEO," by Patrick Lencioni. I would highly recommend it for anyone. It con- tains timeless advice for recognizing and avoiding common leadership mistakes. Favorite movies/TV shows: I'd rather listen to music but one of my favorite movies is "The Imitation Game." I've also managed to get hooked on "Yel- lowstone" — Sea- son 5 can't come soon enough. How do you recharge: It hasn't happened enough in the past two years, but I enjoy getting out- side and leaving my phone behind. I've found more peace of mind on a walk in the woods than anywhere else. As Thoreau said, "The question is not what you look at but what you see." Inspired by the ocean B y R e n e e C o r d e s Becky McKinnell, 38 Founder and CEO, iBec Creative and Wildwood Oyster Co. Significant professional accomplish- ment: iBec's B Corp certification. It rep- resents years of diligence to make iBec a company that is a great place to work, delights our clients, gives back to our community and minimizes its negative impact on the environment. Passion project: I'm really proud to serve on University of Southern Maine's Founda- tion Board. We've raised nearly $14 million so far for the Great University Campaign to help build up scholarships so that more students can graduate college in four years and without debt. I started iBec from a business plan that I wrote my senior year at USM; now it feels good to give back and help create more opportunities for others. Audacious goal: I have a dream to one day live on an island in Maine where I make art all day and I tell time by the tide and the moon (but I still have internet, of course). Favorite quote: "We'll figure it out!" We say this so much at iBec, it has become an inside joke. To me this phrase embod- ies enthusiasm to take risks and explore the unknown. Influential book: I love the way Ari Weinz- weig talks about building an authentic culture in "A Lapsed Anarchist's Approach to Building a Great Business." Ask us how you can earn even more!
