That includes overseeing our recent transition to employee ownership. I'm extraordi- narily proud of my amazing team, and look forward to providing great jobs (and service) in this community — and, of course, helping our employee-owners develop the mindset and leadership skills necessary to expand the business, increase revenue, and manage new and exciting projects well into the future. Passion project: I'm passionate about solving food insecurity in America. I was actively involved with the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas, and I hope to work with local nonprofits doing similar work here in Maine. Audacious goal: Sam's Italian and our 70-plus employee- owners are part of the Teamshares network, a group of 50-plus employee-owned businesses across 26 states and nearly 40 industries. Teamshares' mission is to make employee ownership the future of small business. And our collective goal is as audacious as they come: to grow that network to 10,000 companies and create $10 billion in new wealth for hard-working Americans. This goal is big, but I know we can do it. Financial advisor and high school field hockey coach B y R e n e e C o r d e s Katie Brann, 28 Financial advisor, Golden Pond Wealth Management Significant professional accomplishments: Passing the Certified Financial Planner exam within four months of giv- ing birth to my now two-year-old daughter, Charlotte. Learn- ing to balance work with parenting and passion projects. Passion project: I am the varsity field hockey coach at my alma mater, Messalonskee High School. I also chair the steering committee for KV Connect, Water- ville's young professionals' networking group within the Realize Maine Network. Audacious goal: To successfully manage a team of comprehensive wealth managers and their support staff. Also, to win a Maine state field hockey champi- onship as a coach. Favorite quote: Lately, it's "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good." Influential book: "Factfulness," by Hans Rosling. It's a quick and thought-provoking read. Favorite movies/TV shows: "Steel Magnolias" is my favorite tearjerker movie. My TV taste ranges from "Parks and Recreation" to "Mad Men" to rewatching "Grey's Anatomy." My husband and I just started "Veep" and we're loving it. How do you recharge: In the winter, I escape to Car- rabassett Valley with my family for some downhill ski- ing or simply some relaxation at camp. The energy at Sugarloaf is hard to beat. During the summer, we spend as much time as we can on the lake. I love living in Maine because all four seasons offer opportunities to recharge in nature. Cambodian community leader B y R e n e e C o r d e s Marpheen Chann, 31 Community impact manager, Good Shepherd Food Bank Significant professional accomplishment: Publishing my memoir, "Moon in Full." Passion project: Being president of Khmer Maine, formerly the Cambodian Community Association of Maine, working to provide kids of Cambodian descent opportunities I didn't have growing up to explore my identity as a child of refugees, an adoptee, and a Mainer. Working on improving the overall social well-being of the Cambodian community by helping to integrate more economically and civically. Audacious goal: To widen the path for those like me — who know they don't quite fit in because of their skin color, sexual orientation or gender identity, or family background — so they don't have to feel the pressures of being "the first" or one of a handful of pioneers. I want to make the path a little easier so they can just be and take in the scenery and enjoy life, pursue their dreams and passions, and pass on the lessons on how to just be human. The purpose in life is to simply be human, not superheroes or per- fect angels. Favorite quote: "Be polite to all, but intimate with a few." — Thomas Jefferson.
