X X I I O C T O B E R 3 , 2 0 2 2 12 A lawyer who offers financial guidance to veterans B y P e t e r V a n A l l e n Michael Adams,28 Attorney, Preti Flaherty Significant professional accomplishment: Returning to an undergraduate program after a nine-month-long deployment to Afghanistan and excelling through it, which led to being admitted, and subsequently graduating from law school. Passion project: Being able to provide legal and financial guidance and assistance to veterans across the state. I was working with the Maine Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection, a state regulatory agency. It publishes annual financial related pieces that target spe- cific issues in the state. When I was working there, I wanted to help pro- duce a financial guide that was tai- lored toward Maine's 100,000-plus veterans, highlighting programs and benefits available to them. I was the co-author of the guide and hundreds of copies made their way around the state. I am not sure of one specific example in which the guide helped a veteran, but I do know that the reception was well received and the bureau received dozens of calls asking for more. I can only hope that it did help veterans take steps towards financial stability. Audacious goal: To become a leader in my field. A finance leader in the field of health care B y A l e x i s W e l l s Randy Albert, 39 Vice president finance, operations vice president of analytics, Northern Light Health S i g n i f i c a n t p r o f e s s i o n a l accomplishment: Ser ving as a leader during the most transformative time in Northern Light Health history, co-lead- ing internal performance improvement efforts to fur- ther integrate and align processes system-wide over the course of mul- tiple years. This ongo- ing program includes significant change management efforts, the development of an analyt- i c s i n f r a - str ucture, and design- ing intuitive dashboards for leaders. Passion project: Serving as a guest lecturer to in-state and out-of-state universities, educating college-level students enrolled in health care programs on analytics and the complexities of the busi- ness of health care and the need for disruption and improvement in reducing the cost of care. Helping students navigate from classroom to career B y L a u r i e S c h r e i b e r Michelle Anderson, 34 President / CEO, Junior Achievement of Maine Significant professional accomplishment: Help- ing Junior Achievement of Maine grow its state- wide presence through enhanced, innovative partnerships with school districts and Maine's busi- ness community has been something I'm proud to have led. We've grown the Junior Achievement team as well as our volunteer base, which has allowed u s t o d e e p e n o u r impact on students in Maine. Navigat- ing challenges of the pandemic was difficult, but the organization became far more resilient and financially sound as a result. Facing those chal- lenges helped me grow as a leader. I appreciate my amazing colleagues and board members who are collaborative and passionate and make work fun. Passion project: I love working with children. Being a Junior Achievement volunteer over the last 12 years has been a rewarding experience that allows me to give back and be part of a mission that will have a positive impact for generations. Helping students find their passion, raising their aspirations and making the connections between what they are learning in school to a future career makes my heart happy. Audacious goal: I hope to champion building a Junior Achieve ment of Maine innovation center that takes learning outside the classroom and provides real-world learning simulations, igniting a spark in students to design fulfilling careers.
