24 HARTFORDBUSINESS.COM | August 15, 2022 40 UNDER FORTY | 2022 Latonia Williams is a partner at Shipman & Goodwin LLP. She is a commercial liti- gator and member of Shipman's workout, restructure and bankruptcy team where she represents creditor clients in highly complex and often contentious workout, debt restruc- tures and bankruptcy proceedings around the country. She also advises clients on a variety of disputes outside of bankruptcy in Connecticut federal and state courts. In addition, Williams serves as Shipman's hiring chair. What's been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career? My biggest professional accomplishment is being a continued advocate for equity and inclusion in the legal profession. As a mentor for diverse junior attorneys and as hiring chair, I strive to ensure that our future legal leaders reflect the diversity of the community in which we live. How are you involved in the community? I serve on the board of Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut ("SLS"), part of the Connecticut Network for Legal Aid providing low-income residents with access to justice and the tools to address their civil legal needs. Prior to joining the board, I served as a pro-bono volunteer for SLS. What do you like to do outside of work? I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family. Some of my favorite destinations include Austria, Costa Rica, Dubai, Florence, Nairobi and the Seychelles. Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty? • Skilled litigator with a detailed under- standing of client needs and ways to find pragmatic solutions to complex, multilayered legal issues. • Shipman & Goodwin LLP's hiring chair. • Committed mentor and advocate who is focused on fostering the develop- ment and promotion of diverse junior attorneys. • Board member of Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut. Fun Fact I immigrated to the United States from St. Thomas, Jamaica at age five.
