FUTURE GOALS Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island hosts several annual events to raise funds and grant extraordinary and impactful wishes for children battling life-threatening illnesses, from wine and spirit tasting events to formal banquets to golf tournaments. The premier event is the Gala held every year in April. The 2023 Gala will be the 40th Anniversary and a momentous milestone to bring together and celebrate our community of supporters and wish families. There are numerous ways supporters can contribute to these events, such as volunteering and working with the staff so the events can run smoothly or sponsoring a table at the Gala or foursome at the golf tournaments. Donations for the auctions are always accepted from local businesses and individuals. Getaways/travel, experiences, and sports packages are the most highly sought-after auction prizes. Fund-A-Wish is another impactful way to give back and directly make a wish come true. Donations in any monetary increments are always appreciated and go directly towards granting wishes for local children within the Massachusetts and Rhode Island community. FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES The success of our mission depends greatly on the support we receive from our volunteers and community partners, and we value their commitment to our wish children. Volunteer opportunities at Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island vary greatly and we work to fit the role with the group or individual(s). Volunteers play a significant role in wish granting, which involves working with our families to discover the child's wish and supporting the staff to grant the wish. Volunteers can also support our mission at internal and external fundraising events, by helping at or prior to the events. We encourage businesses to support our mission by donating time, talent and/or services. Even sharing community networks helps us meet our mission goals by supporting language translation and office support. We offer volunteer trainings twice a month and registration can be completed on our website at massri.wish.org. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES POST-PANDEMIC: Historically, travel wishes have made up 80% of our granted wishes. Because travel was not possible due to the pandemic, in March 2020 we shared non-travel wish opportunities with families. Many children chose to have shopping sprees, puppies, playsets, and gaming computers, to name a few. With this pivot, our organization was able to continue to grant wishes for medically eligible children throughout the pandemic and bring joy to them at a time that proved challenging for all. Also, our revenue focus has traditionally been heavy on internal events. We've learned to diversify our sources and shift toward Leadership gifts. Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island sends out annual appeals by mail twice a year. It is an opportunity to look to the future with new fiscal goals, wishes in the pipeline, upcoming events, and reengage the community of supporters, volunteers, and wish families. Donations made through annual appeals, in memory of loved ones, and workplace giving are always gratefully appreciated. Support through the public and local businesses – volunteer services, event sponsorship, general donations, and in-kind services – are always needed. This upcoming year the Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island chapter seeks to reconnect with a renewed focus on local school organizations, new corporate sponsorship opportunities, and individuals that share in the same philanthropic mission. Those that wish to host their own events on behalf of Make-A- Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island are encouraged. Whether it's a school club or sorority hosting an event, or a young biotech or pharmaceutical company wishing to establish a charitable foundation to give back, these relationships are meaningful and make a big impact.
