Allied-Cook Construction, which is nearing the finish line with the Covetrus headquar- ters on Portland's East End, is now doing framing on the 39,000-square-foot Phoenix Flats project just a few blocks away, at 83 Middle St. It will offer 45 units of afford- able housing for seniors 62 years old or older, plus the disabled. It was designed to meet PassiveHouse certification. The building owner is Community Housing of Maine. Along with Scarborough-based Allied-Cook as construction manager, the architect is CWS Architecture + Interior Design, civil engineer is Terradyn Consultants LLC, structural engineer and PassiveHouse consultant is Thornton Tomasetti, mechanical and elec- trical engineer is Bennett Engineering. Financing was provided by MaineHousing and Bangor Savings Bank (which has a branch next door). Fall completion is expected. Another contractor making a shift is Freeport-based Zachau Construction. As it winds down construction on the L.L.Bean headquarters, adjacent to the old HQ now being razed), it is doing framing on Phase I of the Front Street Redevelopment, at 34 W. Presumpscot St. in Portland. The site, on what had been a public housing development, will have 113 units of mixed- income housing. Partners in the housing project are Portland Housing Authority, Portland Housing Development Corp., Utile, MaineHousing, Bath Savings, Cross Surety, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the city of Portland, Drummond Woodsum, FHLBank Boston, RBC Capital Projects and Development Services of New England. NEWS FROM AROUND THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY MWHoss is doing the renovations and fit-out of the Goodfire Brewing site in South Freeport. Optimum Construction Co. is doing the fit-out of the Dok Mali Thai Kitchen, at 47 India St. in Portland. The site was formerly Lois' Natural Marketplace. Construction of the Hallowell Townhouse Condos, at 211 Water St., is being led by Jim Pepin Homes LLC. The six-unit devel- opment is being financed by Skowhegan Savings Bank.
