8 HARTFORD BUSINESS JOURNAL | APRIL 25, 2022 | BUSINESS PROFILES S ince 1951, Holy Family Retreat and Conference Center in West Hartford has offered guests the opportunity to rest, reflect and deepen their spirituality in a peaceful, beautiful setting. Visitors come from all faiths and all walks of life, attending weekend retreats, offsite meetings, day and evening programs, concerts, Masses, and many other events. Some come for the magnificent music. Some come just to rest or walk the labyrinth. Some come seeking unique, handcrafted items in the gift shop, or an inspirational Mass card to help a grieving family member. And since the coronavirus pandemic hit in 2020, more and more guests come in groups to meetings and conferences designed to reconnect them with other remote-working colleagues. Set on 48 idyllic acres in West Hartford and known throughout the Northeast for its gracious hospitality, Holy Family ministers to some 19,000 people each year (including over 2,000 youth), offering guests the opportunity to quiet their minds and nourish their spirits. Those who come find comfortable and immaculate quarters, gracious and attentive staff, and delicious, creative meals reminiscent of the family dining table. They also find dynamic preaching, unparalleled music, a spirit of exploration and dialogue, and a universal spirit of welcome to all people. Weekend retreats for men, women and couples are offered from September to June, as well as day and evening programs on a variety of interesting topics ranging from mysticism, meditation, and centering prayer to quilting, knitting and bread baking. Holy Family is not only a favored destination of individuals and couples but also of families and companies seeking to hold a special event — whether a corporate team building function, an offsite business meeting, or a family reunion. Available facilities include a high-tech conference room that can seat over 200 people, numerous meeting rooms to accommodate six to 75 people, and a modern dining room that serves over 200. Overnight facilities include more than 150 guest rooms, including suites with private bathrooms. Outdoors, all are invited to wander and discover the tranquility of Holy Family's beautiful grounds, which include wooded paths, a koi pond, perennial gardens, Stations of the Cross, playing fields for team building, and numerous park benches positioned about the property for rest and reflection. A sizable labyrinth beckons visitors to a meditative walking experience as they follow the circle of peace and infinity. In the front lobby is a bookstore and gift shop like no other, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's a favorite of those looking to purchase a gift that is out of the ordinary — jewelry, frames, candles, soaps, fairly-traded coffee, hats, greeting cards, tote bags — or a book that can inspire and transform. The Holy Family campus is also home to The Monastery Gallery of Art, Copper Beech Institute, Spiritual Life Center, and Christian Contemplative Experience, four distinct yet complementary entities offering extensive creative and spiritual exploration and inspiration.
