20 HARTFORD BUSINESS JOURNAL | APRIL 25, 2022 | BUSINESS PROFILES M ark Nisbett brought a unique perspective to People, Places & Spaces, the workplace solutions company he founded in 2018. Mark previously spent 25-plus years on the client-side leading corporate real estate and facilities management divisions for Cigna, Webster Bank, RPW Group, Altria (Philip Morris), and Weil Gotshal Manges. Relying on his experience as a customer, he sought to make the process of workplace strategy and furnishings procurement easier by simplifying and improving the service delivery model while enhancing business and helping people love where they work. At the core of PPS's mission are long- term partnerships based on trust and transparency, Nisbett says. "We operate with each client's best interest in mind, tailoring solutions by focusing on their unique culture, brand, and business drivers. The result is a personalized approach to each project that helps boost productivity and performance". Nisbett and his team are keenly aware that the future workplace is evolving. "PPS is at the forefront of reimagining the workplace experience," Nisbett says. "We design for collaboration, inclusion, and the new ways we work while simplifying execution so our customers can focus on their business." When choosing PPS, customers have a range of options. PPS partners with more than 200 manufacturers, allowing the company to source product solutions that fit any aesthetic, style, price, and function. The company's primary manufacturing partner is Haworth, the third-largest furniture manufacturer globally. The partnership enables PPS to provide regional and national coverage, including servicing multibillion-dollar organizations, through Haworth's dealer network. In 2021, PPS was awarded Haworth's esteemed "Best in Class" designation, recognizing dealers that nationally perform in the top 10% based on rigorous best business practices and client satisfaction. PPS is the only Haworth dealer in Connecticut to earn this distinction. PPS is also committed to helping companies achieve their supplier diversity goals in sourcing, a growing corporate priority. As a Small Business Enterprise, PPS is a Certified Minority Business Enterprise with the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council, the State of Connecticut, the State of Rhode Island, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. "I grew up in the inner city and took advantage of many programs offered to inner-city youth. I understood how companies' contributions benefit people in the communities we serve," Nisbett says. "I always thought that if I had the opportunity to give back, I would participate as much as I could since I was at the receiving end growing up." Mark currently serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Southwest New England, Ambassador for The Village for Families & Children, the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and CoreNet Global, The Global Association for Corporate Real Estate. Indeed, PPS measures success not only by the value it creates for its customers. Headquartered in the historic Goodwin Building in downtown Hartford, the company is also proud to contribute to local nonprofits. "Even in this unprecedented time, I believe Hartford is moving in a great direction with many committed people, organizations, and corporations involved. I strive to be a part of that experience and seek opportunities where I can assist not only on the business side but also on the community side," Nisbett says.
