Women In Business | April 11, 2022 | Hartford Business Journal 13 WOMEN IN BUSINESS AWARDS 2022 B eth Henry is responsible for the team that develops and executes marketing strategies to drive growth in support of Cigna's U.S. commercial and government business segments. She is accountable for bringing the business' value proposition to life and creating compelling, data-driven marketing programs that promote Cigna and position its products and solutions for success with key buyers and stakeholders. Henry re-joined the marketing organization in 2014 as vice president and head of global marketing operations. She serves on the board of directors for Foodshare, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting hunger in Greater Hartford. She and her husband have four children. What's been your biggest professional accomplishment so far? I've worked on acquisitions, re-branding and building new functions. I'm a continuous problem solver. As board chair of Connecticut Foodshare, we completed the biggest nonprofit merger in state history last year and that has had a huge impact on people who are food insecure across our state. What's the next big goal you want to accomplish professionally? I'm ready for a new challenge as a broad- based marketer so I'm looking for that next growth frontier to sink my teeth into. What's one of the biggest professional challenges you've overcome? As a working mom, I've felt the weight of unrealistic standards of perfection I set for myself. I've learned to embrace the amazing juggling act of my work and home life. Some days are harder than others but I get the job done – with grace, humor, agility, tenacity and commitment. How has the COVID-19 pandemic forced you to adapt as a leader? COVID has made me more purposeful in how I engage my team. Even something small, like opening up meetings with some fun discussion and banter, is so important. It gives people the time and space to connect on a personal level and that builds a team culture. What do you like to do outside of work? I'm a soccer mom. You'll find me at one of my kid's games most weekends. Beth Henry Employer: Cigna Title: Vice President of U.S. Business Marketing T aniqua Huguley founded her company after receiving her bachelor's degree in sociology and master's in public policy from Trinity College and conducting research in Trinidad as a U.S. Fulbright scholar. TKH Global Consulting offers Black Girls Achieve (an enrichment program for Black girls), college counseling, grant writing and fellowship and scholarship application assistance services. Huguley is a recipient of 50 for the Next 50, Hartford's Finest, 100 Women of Color, and 31 Exceptional Women awards. She is also the director of economic mobility at United Way. What's been your biggest professional accomplishment so far? My biggest professional accomplishment so far is being able to launch and host Black Girls Achieve in my home neighborhood, Queensbridge Houses. I always dreamed of establishing a youth-centered organization in the neighborhood that shaped my journey. I did not expect it to happen so soon. What's the next big goal you want to accomplish professionally? My next big goal is to host an international exchange program for TKH Global Consulting's college counseling clients and Black Girls Achieve's program participants. What's one of the biggest professional challenges you've overcome? One of the biggest professional challenges I had to overcome was making sure I brought my full identity and experiences to the workplace. I learned that my identity and experiences were needed in many of the discussions I participated in the classroom and in my professional life. How has the COVID-19 pandemic forced you to adapt as a leader? I believe my leadership qualities existed long before the pandemic; I believe it was my leadership qualities that helped me get through the pandemic. COVID forced me to step up and establish Black Girls Achieve, a much-needed resource for Black girls. What do you like to do outside of work? I like to do things that make me happy and relax. Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family and friends. I love to create new memories through travel. I also like to practice yoga, read and hike.
