Janet Mills announced $3.5 million in her forthcoming change package will be allocated to keep the Maine Veterans Homes in Caribou and Machias open. The Governor will propose $1.75 million in General Fund money, which will leverage $1.75 mil- lion in additional Federal funding. The Maine State Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Mathematics & Science Alliance and Science is US released a set of policy recom- mendations to help bolster the state's STEM education and workforce and to encourage policymakers to reprioritize science and engineering. The policies complement and support the Maine Economic Development Strategy and its focus on talent and innovation as a pathway to the state's economic devel- opment and growth. U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King announced that seven orga- nizations in the state of Maine received a total of $9 million to strengthen health care services. The funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration's Health Center Cluster Program. Recipients included: Bucksport Regional Health Center, $1.7 million; Fish River Rural Health and D.F.D. Russell Medical Center Inc., $1.5 million each; York County Community Action Corp., $1.4 million; Maine Mobile Health Program Inc., $1.2 million; and Eastport Health Care Inc. and St. Croix Regional Family Health Center, $1 million each. Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty, a luxury property company in Portland, said it donated $30,000 to 50 charitable organizations through its Legacy's Legacy: Giving Back to Maine program in 2021.
