For five years, WBJ has tracked the gender breakdown of executive teams and board of directors/trustees at 75 prominent Central Massachusetts business organizations. New to the list this year is MCPHS University, replacing the now-closed Becker College, and Cytiva, replacing Oxford Immunotic, which was acquired by PerkinElmer of Waltham. The 2022 Central Massachusetts Boardroom Gap, by company Notes: Data is for most recent year available in the filings. Executives who also serve on boards of directors are counted twice. For public companies, those listed are named executives in annual reports. For private corporations, those listed are named on their filings with the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth, where they must include the president, treasurer, secretary and at least one director. Companies without local headquarters are not included. For organizations with parent companies who have local executives and a global board, both are included. % point 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 change Public companies 74 285 26% 19% Private corporations 29 127 23% 37% Healthcare organizations 79 199 40% 38% Financial institutions 74 256 29% 30% Colleges 177 448 40% 41% Social service nonprofits 192 357 54% 53% 2022 female executives and board members COLOR LEGEND: % point 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 change SeaChange International was headquartered in Acton when The Boardroom Gap investigation started, but the company has moved its headquarters to Waltham.
