Candace Adams, President & CEO, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, New England Properties Candace Adams leads Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, New England Properties as president and CEO. Adams oversees the brand's operations and 2,200 agents in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. It has area offices in Wallingford, Branford, Cheshire, Fairfield and Madison. Adams has been with the company for more than 26 years. During that time, she has worked to expand its operations, including through the acquisition of 11 brokerages. She also was instrumental in launching four new offices. One of her biggest accomplishments has been the launch of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices' New York City presence in January 2017. Since then, she has integrated its Hudson Valley Properties team, extending the company's reach into central New York state. Adams has had several leadership positions in the real estate industry. She serves on the Real Estate Board of New York's Residential Brokerage board of directors, which oversees organization policies and committees. She previously served on the SmartMLS board of directors, representing more than 17,000 Connecticut real estate professionals. Before the merger of the Connecticut and Greater Fairfield County listing services, Adams served on the CTMLS' board of directors for a decade. Adams hosts a podcast where she shares insights on real estate trends. In a recent podcast, Adams talked about reduced inventory due to more people aging in place or deciding against downsizing. According to Adams, the migration from New York City to the suburbs due to the pandemic has subsided, and her team is watching a trend of people returning, sometimes maintaining dual residency in the city and suburbs. Adams also anticipates early interest in securing summer rentals for the company's vacation markets. 10. Dr. Eric P. Winer, Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital Dr. Eric P. Winer leads the Yale team working to cure patients who are battling cancer. Winer was slated to take over as the new director of the Yale Cancer Center and physician-in-chief of Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven starting Feb. 1. In his new role, Winer will lead the more than 300 cancer researchers on faculty at the Yale Cancer Center. Smilow treats nearly half of the 20,000 patients diagnosed with cancer annually in Connecticut. Winer's selection was announced in October, following a nationwide search. He is known internationally for his expertise in breast cancer, and he most recently served as the ompson Chair in Breast Cancer Research, chief clinical development officer, and senior vice president for medical affairs at Dana- Farber Cancer Institute and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. In his new position, Winer will be focused on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. He is working to build a program that offers multidisciplinary care and clinical trials to all patients, eliminating disparities in access, care and outcomes, according to the health system. According to Winer, he will be building upon the clinical and research programs already in place, and will focus on increasing collaborations between laboratory and clinical investigators. It is a homecoming for Winer to come back to New Haven, as he is an alumnus of both Yale College and Yale School of Medicine. He got his medical degree in 1983, and later served as chief resident at Yale New Haven Hospital. He has had several leadership roles, and is president-elect of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. 11. Leander Dolphin, Managing Partner, Shipman & Goodwin As managing partner of Ship- man & Goodwin, Leander Dolphin leads one of the state's largest law firms with 146 attorneys. Dolphin took over in the firm's lead- ership role as of Jan. 1. e firm has an office on Church Street in New Haven, along with locations in Hartford, Old Lyme, Stamford, Greenwich, Lakeville and New York. Dolphin said her focus is to build upon the firm's performance in 2021, which she described as one of its stron- gest despite the pandemic. In her practice, Dolphin has helped clients, such as educational institu- tions and private employers, deal with COVID-related issues, such as vaccine mandates and workplace health and safety. As an attorney, Dolphin regularly advises universities, colleges, public school districts, independent schools and other clients on a variety of edu- cation and employment matters. ese range from special education disputes to claims of sexual harassment to policies involving the Americans with Disabilities Act. Dolphin originally joined Shipman in 2004. Prior to becoming managing partner, she served for three years on the firm's management committee and became a co-managing partner last year. Dolphin is also active in the commu- nity. In November, she was elected to the Connecticut Business & Industry Association's board of directors. She is also the former vice president of hu- man resources and general counsel for the Girl Scouts of Connecticut. Dolphin also has taught education law as an adjunct professor at Quinnip- iac University School of Law. 12. Tim Diemand, Managing Partner, Wiggin and Dana Longtime attor- ney Tim Diemand took over as man- aging partner at New Haven-based law firm Wiggin and Dana on Oct. 1, aer serving eight years on its executive committee. In his new role, he leads a firm with more than 150 attorneys in Connecti- cut, New York, Philadelphia, Washing- ton D.C. and Florida. In state, the firm has offices in New Haven, Stamford, Hartford, Greenwich, Westport and Madison. Diemand joined the firm in 1995. He has represented clients — including Fortune 500 companies — nationwide in matters ranging from insurance class actions and copyright claims against major record labels to malpractice cases and personal injury claims. When he took over as managing part- ner, Diemand said his priorities were to continue the firm's growth and direc- tion, attract the best legal talent and increase diversity at the firm, while also
