PHOTO | CONTRIBUTED Pratt & Whitney announces new, more efficient jet engine for Airbus Pratt & Whitney recently unveiled the next generation of its geared turbofan (GTF) engine for Airbus that the company said will set industry standards for fuel efficiency and sustainability. The East Hartford-based jet engine maker, a Raytheon Technologies Corp. business, described it as "the world's most fuel-efficient and sustainable single-aisle aircraft engine." The engine will be used in the Airbus A320neo family aircraft and reduces fuel consumption by an additional 1% compared to the current GTF engine, the company said. In total, the upgraded engine decreases fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 17% compared to prior-generation engines, the company said. Day Kimball Healthcare, Mass.- based health system sign affiliation agreement Putnam-based Day Kimball Healthcare is moving toward an affiliation with a Catholic, not-for- profit health network based in Massachusetts. Day Kimball and Covenant Health Inc. announced they have entered into an affiliation agreement "allowing both organizations to move forward with discussions aimed at Day Kimball Healthcare becoming a full member of Covenant Health." Officials said the two health systems have been speaking for several months about the proposed linkup, but no "expectation was established" for the affiliation to become final because "the regulatory review and approval process is extensive." Day Kimball employs over 1,000 staff members and mainly serves residents in the northeast section of Connecticut, as well as some patients in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Verizon pays $3.4M for 27.9 acres in Windsor Verizon Wireless last month bought 27.9 acres of undeveloped land in Windsor for $3.4 million. The property at 35 Great Pond Drive is close to Interstate 91 and sits in the town's "Economic Development Zone." This zone aims to promote development of high-tech offices, research and development and light manufacturing, said Town Planner Eric Barz. Windfield Business Park LLC, of Concord, Mass., sold the property to Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless. The deal was signed Nov. 16. Verizon has not yet submitted a development application with Windsor, Barz said. AT&T looking to hire 45 people in CT, offering $1,000 sign-on bonuses AT&T is looking to hire around 45 new employees in Connecticut, and is offering a sign-on bonus for those who are ultimately offered positions. A spokeswoman for the telecommunications giant said AT&T wants to fill more than 130 full-time and part-time roles in the New England area, including approximately 45 in Connecticut, between now and the end of the year. The company is offering a $1,000 sign-on bonus to those who are hired. Spinnaker eyes February start to major Hartford office-to- apartment conversion project Spinnaker Real Estate Partners could begin physical work transforming a massive former state office building at 55 Elm St. in Hartford by February. Spinnaker co-partner Matthew Edvardsen said demolition and abatement work in the building could begin in the next 30 to 45 days. The Norwalk-based developer purchased the century-old, 200,000-square-foot office building in Jan. 2020, for $6.8 million. It also purchased a trio of nearby parking lots at 71 Elm St., 94 Hudson St., and 108-110 Capitol Ave. The company plans to put 160 apartments in the historic office building and build multifamily buildings in adjacent parking lots. Amphenol acquires Halo Technology for $715M Wallingford-based manufacturer Amphenol Corp. said it has purchased Halo Technology Limited for approximately $715 million. Halo, which is based in California, makes fiber-optic interconnect components. Halo anticipates its 2021 sales to be in the vicinity of $250 million. Amphenol has locations around the world, and it makes products such as electronic and fiber-optic connectors and high-speed specialty cables. Its customers are in an array of industries, such as aerospace, military, automotive and broadband communications. CT took in $1.7M from legalized gambling, betting in Oct. Connecticut collected roughly $1.7 million during the first month of legalized online gambling and sports betting, Gov. Ned Lamont announced. Between the Oct. 12 "soft launch" of online gaming and Oct. 31, the state collected approximately $513,000 from sports wagering — which opened separately on Oct. 25 — and $1.2 million from online casino gaming. The proceeds will be deposited into Connecticut's general fund. Operators pay the state 13.75% of their gross gaming revenue for sports wagering and 18% of their gross gaming revenue for online casino games. The rate on online gaming will eventually rise to 20% in 2026. The state does not collect payments on sports wagers placed on tribal lands. 39% 61%
