Greater Portland Landmarks listed its "Places in Peril" listing, calling attention to threats facing commu- nity-defining, historically-significant places in the greater Portland area. Maine Preservation in Yarmouth announced that the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability released its evaluation of the Maine Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, finding that the tax credit's structure and administration are sound and efficient, the credit follows best practices and program data is robust. The evaluation also found that the program incentivizes historic preservation and community revitaliza- tion, promoting affordable housing, job creation and economic growth. Boat dealer moves into former drumstick factory With Vic Firth Co.'s move to a new facility within Newport, the drumstick-and-mallet manufacturer's former factory space was sold to Waterville-based boat dealer Hamlin's Marine. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Hamlin's was founded in 1984 by Dave and Christine Hamlin. In 2006, they opened Hamlin's Marina in Hampden with their son- in-law and daughter, Dan and Katie Higgins, who took over the business. In 2020, Dan and Katie opened a third location on the Belfast water- front. Altogether, Hamlin's sells boats and provides service, the marina and indoor storage. e four-acre, former Vic Firth property is central to Hamlin's three other locations. It has 933 feet of water frontage on Sebasticook Lake and has 68,247 square feet in area across seven pri- mary buildings. Apartment complex breaks ground in Auburn e city of Auburn, which has been aggressively courting new residential development, will soon be home to 48 new luxury apartments. Developer Sasseville Management LLC plans to build the units at the Kittyhawk Village complex, where there are already 72 apartments.
