The Maine district office of the U.S. Small Business Administration recognized its top Maine lenders in several catego- ries including Bangor Savings Bank, who approved 47, 7(a) loans and 11, 504 3rd Party loans totaling over $12 million, making the bank the over- all "Leading SBA Bank Lender in Maine;" Deere Employee Credit Union was the "Leading SBA Credit Union in Maine" after approving six 7(a) loans and two 504 3rd Party loans totaling over $1.2 million in Maine; Granite State Development Corp. was "Maine's Leading Certified Devel- opment Co." in both numbers and total dollars, approving 86, 504 loans for nearly $38 million in Fiscal Year 2021; and Coastal Enterprises Inc. was "Maine's Leading SBA Micro- lender" with 23 loan approvals total- ing $390,000 in Fiscal Year 2021. In addition, the administration presented "SBA District Director Awards" to Northern Maine Development Commis- sion, Kennebunk Savings Bank and Evergreen Credit Union for the efforts taken by these lenders to increase the use of SBA programs in their lending portfolios, as well as their efforts to increase access to programs like the Paycheck Protection Program. Bar Harbor Bank & Trust presented its "Chairman's Award" to Steve Gurin, senior vice president and director of community banking, and Joe Schmitt, senior vice president and director of marketing. In addition, recipients of the bank's "2021 Emerging Leader Award" were Jayme Demers, vice president, retail delivery strategic initiatives; Alison DiPaola, vice president, human resources manager; Raelene Garrow, vice president, retail lending operations manager; Zac Riitano, vice president, portfolio man- ager; and Bryan Sanford, vice president, senior investment officer at Charter Trust Co., a subsidiary of the bank. e bank also said it was recognized as one of "America's Best Banks" by Newsweek in the small bank category for Maine. e American Public Health Associa- tion recognized Maine Public Health Asso- ciation as the recipient of its "2021 Out- standing Affiliate of the Year Award." Northern Light Orthopedics at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor was recognized as a "Star Performer" by the American Orthopaedic Asso- ciation's Own the Bone program, which helps provide secondary (after fracture) osteoporosis care to prevent future fractures, pain and suffering and cost that comes with these inju- ries. e medical center also said it received the American Heart Asso- ciation/American Stroke Association's "Get with the Guidelines — Stroke Gold Plus with Honor Roll Quality Achievement Award" as well as being named to the "Target: Type 2 Diabe- tes Honor Roll." The Maine State Chamber of Commerce honored the late Harold Alfond, philan- thropist and Dexter Shoe Co. founder and the late David Flanagan, former executive chairman of the Board of Directors of Central Maine Power and AVANGRID Inc. at its annual dinner. Tedford Housing, a homeless services provider based in Brunswick, honored community members, businesses and long-time staff members at its Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony. "e Scooty Brownell Award" was awarded posthumously to Judy Montgomery, who was a longtime member of the board of directors; "e Margit Cook Award" was presented to Tedford's team of Warm y Neighbor Volun- teers: Karren Cowing, Irene Martin, Doro- thy Moody, Marilyn Sinskie, Susan Wygal and the late Sally Loving; "e Tedford Home Award" went to George and Kate Cook of Cooke's Maple Farm of Brunswick; and Kay Wilson, adult shel- ter manager, and Giff Jamison, direc- tor of programs, were both honored for 15 years of employment with the organization. EXIT Realty New England recognized associates during its 2021 EXIT Realty Corp. International Virtual Awards. Maine based "Silver" winners were Elias Thomas III, Shapleigh and Daniel Hickman, Bridgton. "Bronze" winners included: Sherry James, Shap- leigh; Jason Vennard, Stephanie Tremblay and Pamela Coyne, Wells; and Steve Gourley, Bridgton. College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor was listed first and Bates College in Lew- iston fifth in e Princeton Review's 2022 Guide to Green Colleges. e guide ranks schools on recycling and conservation programs, use of renew- able energy, reliance on local food systems, waste diversion and more.
