Di Dia Executive Director Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, Boehringer Ingelheim USA F or more than 30 years, the Governor's Prevention Partnership has been at the forefront of youth prevention in Connecticut. What started as a focus on the effects of drugs in the workplace has evolved to respond to the emerging threats that face Connecticut's young people, including vaping, marijuana, chronic absenteeism, alcohol, and bullying. In 2021, we improved mentor recruitment by making it a part of the State of Connecticut's "Step Up" campaign, which connects volunteers to organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also expanded our capability to host large-scale virtual events, with the 2021 Connecticut Mentoring Summit, presented entirely online, and featuring mentoring practitioners and experts from all over the country. GOALS 1. Recruit mentors to further close the mentoring gap in CT 2. Respond to current events in real- time to provide critical support for families and mentors 3. Expand our peer-led prevention efforts to address substance use across the state 4. Build capacity for prevention within communities and organizations across the state, acting as a convener and connector 5. Increase availability of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training for prevention organizations FUNDRAISING EVENTS/ OPPORTUNITIES Every year, The Governor's Prevention Partnership hosts a recognition event for its partners in the fall. This year's event is December 9th and will be held virtually. If your business would like to participate, please contact Events@PreventionWorksCT.org. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Invest in prevention for Connecticut's youth. There are many partnership opportunities available for businesses to become a partner in prevention. Please visit preventionworksct.org for partnership levels and associated benefits. Bring prevention to the workplace. The Partnership's team of prevention professionals can offer virtual informational sessions for employees on topics such as how to talk to your children about substance use. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Become a mentor. You can become a mentor where you live or work, or your company can adopt mentoring as one of its areas of giving back. The Governor's Prevention Partnership provides assistance in setting up these programs and connecting you to local mentoring programs. To sign up to be a mentor, visit bit.ly/mentorct POST-PANDEMIC Our service delivery model evolved as we became more familiar with virtual platforms during the pandemic. That has allowed us to reach exponentially more people around Connecticut with trainings, conversations, and large events. It has lowered the barrier of entry, both in time and cost. We have begun a series of "Rapid Response Conversations" to address current events in a way that can help families and mentors talk to young people about what they see on the news. We have also refreshed our organizational values to better reflect our commitment to the people we serve. We envision all of these changes sticking, regardless of the status of the pandemic, as they have strengthened our organization and our connection to the people we serve. The Governor's Prevention Partnership works in schools and communities across the state to help youth find their voice and lead the way in peer-to-peer prevention.
