We are always looking for new ways to reduce the impact of cancer for every Mainer in all 16 counties. 1 in 3 Mainers will face a cancer diag- nosis in their lifetime. In response to this challenging statistic, MCF remains com- mitted in 2022 to reducing the burden of cancer through grant-based financial support and coalition building. Feedback from cancer stakeholders across the state as well as evaluation of MCF's own efforts has led us to focus our grantmaking on the following three pillars: 1. Cancer Prevention: e best way to beat cancer is to prevent it from occurring. MCF supports statewide prevention efforts, focusing on reducing smoking, promoting healthy lifestyles, and providing access to healthcare that includes cancer prevention. 2. Early Detection and Screening: Find- ing cancer early, when it's most treatable and beatable, saves lives. MCF supports programs that improve and increase early detection and screening efforts. 3. Improve Patient Outcomes: Every Mainer deserves access to the best pos- sible care, regardless of their income level or where they live. MCF supports programs to improve cancer patient support, provide patient navigation, and ensure access to transportation to vital cancer care. In addition, MCF serves as the back- bone organization for Maine's Impact Cancer Network (MICN), Maine's state- wide cancer coalition. MCF contributes f Maine's Impact Cancer Network (MICN) is comprised of members from non-profit organizations, the business community, those with lived experience with cancer, and government representatives and organizations. is 500-member state cancer coalition hosts Task Forces in a number of areas like cancer prevention, screening, rehabilitation, survivorship, and more.
