We know that expanded learning opportunities after school and during the summer months play an essential role in determining a child's future success, particularly among low-income and special student populations. Since students spend only 20 percent of their waking hours in the traditional class- room, students must access high-quality out-of-school-time programming that supports academic success, promotes healthy social and emotional develop- ment, and prevents youth violence. We are a year-round, free, positive youth development program specializing in cultivating grit and alleviating hunger and trauma. Of particular focus are those young people who have fewer social, family, and economic resources. MPTC responds to the urgent need to get students to stay in school, yearn for something beyond their present moment, and teach social respon- sibility equivalent to its mission. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Operations support allows us to allocate the funding the best way we see fit to: f Address urgent and emerging issues such as a pandemic(!). f Protect our organization with the presence of some reserves. f Invest in technolog y and other infrastructures. f Strengthen communications and fundraising efforts. f Plan for expansion of programming and location. Via unrestricted funds, we can pay a utility bill, maintain our 10,000 square foot, 153-year-old building, hire an accountant, purchase fresh produce and proteins for dinners, increase staffing, and be agile to our changing needs and dynamics. Your gift gives MPTC the ability to invest flexibly in our sustainability, make the gaping hole whole, and enhance our operational efficiency – in regular times AND in exceptional times. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES MPTC's ability to recruit and retain a viable volunteer workforce of car- ing adults is key to sustaining our daily operations. Our retention rate is over 80%, and many of our volunteers have served for five years or more. Volunteers either come in weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Some volunteers plan or run programs from one of our five categories: Health and Wellness, Social/ Emotional Competencies, Character/Civic Engagement, Workforce Readiness, or STEAM. Other volunteers come in to assist with homework or to interact and play games. Kitchen volunteers come in on a particular day every week and cook, serve, and clean up dinner. We LOVE our family of volunteers!
