A division of: New Haven BIZ is a publication of New England Business Media, LLC. T he technology sector can oen have a broad definition. In Silicon Valley the industry is dominated by social media and soware companies. Closer to home in New Haven, biotech dominates the region's tech sector. And it's a major growth industry. New Haven Biz over the last few years has invested a lot of coverage in the region's bioscience industry, and this issue in particular spotlights the progress the sector has made. First and foremost, we are publishing our inaugural Tech 25 list, and unsurprisingly it's dominated by biotech companies ranging from early startups to established billion-dollar businesses, all of which are showing promising signs of growth. We also have features on the growing bioscience lab and coworking space opening up in the Elm City and Jon Soderstrom, the longtime head of Yale's Office of Cooperative Research who is considered one of the architects of the Elm City's bioscience ecosystem. He's retiring at the end of the year aer a quarter-century on the job. We've got other interesting reads in this issue. Our "On e Record" Q&A feature is with Jason Few, president and CEO of Danbury-based FuelCell Energy. He talks about the future growth potential of fuel cell technology in a world moving toward cleaner energy. Another story profiles Branford-based Wren Laboratories, which launched the first Food and Drug Administration-approved COVID saliva test for children ages 5 and older. We also spotlight some developers who are investing in long-dormant West Haven seaside properties. We hope you enjoy this issue. As always let us know what you think and please send us future story ideas as well. n Michelle Tuccitto Sullo, Managing Editor msullo@newhavenbiz.com Greg Bordonaro, Editor gbordonaro@newhavenbiz.com Spotlighting New Haven's vibrant tech sector 4 | Around the Region 5 | By The Numbers 6 | Startups, Technology & Innovation 8 | On the Record | Q&A C o n t e n t s Michelle Tuccitto Sullo T H E L I S T S 23 | Largest Connecticut Innovations aid recipients 24 | Greater New Haven's Tech 25 newhavenBIZ 26 | Arts & Buisness 28 | What's the Deal? 29 | C-Suite 30 | Biz Starts 8 | Cleaner Energy FuelCell CEO Jason Few aims to transform global energy landscape. 10 | Shoreline Revival Developers are investing in long-dormant West Haven seaside properties. 12 | Green Rush In-state and out-of-state companies, big and small, are preparing to enter CT's recreational marijuana industry. 14 | Corner Office Yale's Soderstrom, an architect of New Haven's bioscience ecosystem, calls it a career. 16 | Tech 25 Meet Greater New Haven's most innovative companies. 26| Arts & Business Long Wharf, like other theaters, ditches subscriptions, turns to membership model.
