Their return to Connecticut would occur during a brief break from their out-of-state training for their deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan after the New Year. Thanks to the generosity of Connecticut residents and public and private partners, we swiftly exceeded our fundraising goal. I will never forget standing side-by- side with hundreds of military loved ones outside the State Armory on the morning of December 23, 2009 and sharing in their joy as we watched 13 buses emerge on I-84 bringing the troops home for the holidays. This unforgettable accomplishment was not about working on a political campaign, passing legislation, earning promotions or driving a communications plan. It was about being part of a team and a community that gave these brave men and women what they deserved - the chance to spend the holidays with their loved ones before their overseas deployment. Q: What is your biggest professional accomplishment since receiving this award? M y biggest professional accomplishment since 2007 was helping to lead a fundraising eff ort called "Operation Home for the Holidays" launched by the Rell Administration in November 2009. I t's hard to quantify a single accomplishment because there have been a series of accomplishments that have come as a result of starting Connecticut Wealth Management over 10 years ago. These accomplishments include the scores of clients whose lives we have changed because of the way we do business; the dozens of teammates to whom we have provided a fun and rewarding place to work and grow; and earning the #1 Best Place to Work in Connecticut award twice in the last four years. We set out to revolutionize wealth management in the services we deliver and how they are delivered, by providing unrivaled client experiences and career paths for our professionals. S erving my clients both internally and externally on a day to day basis is extremely rewarding. We strive for world class customer service and it is important to set the bar high, under promise and over deliver. Most recently I was elected to the executive board of our fi rm and to be recognized as a leader by my fellow partners on a national level was an amazing accomplishment. I have been truly blessed to have such amazing partners and mentors over the years such as Frank Longobardi, Bob Haggett and Dom Esposito. I would have to say that my biggest professional accomplishment since receiving the HBJ award in 2007 has been to promote several internally developed partners. It is the most amazing and totally rewarding experience to be part of the journey from hiring a young professional straight out of college and watching them learn and develop into amazing, talented partners. It is all about paying it forward. There have been countless moments in my life where I leaned on my trusted mentors for advice and the importance of their guidance is undeniable. So my greatest accomplishment since winning the award is now I have been able to pay it forward. I now mentor many professionals by trying to pass along and impart knowledge, wisdom and my own learnings to hopefully make a positive impact on their lives. Being a mentor serves as a way to give back and is also an important development and learning experience for myself. Teaching others is the best way to keep learning yourself. A famous movie director explained: "The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves." I feel fortunate enough to have had this experience and I am now in a position to return the favor to others who are in various stages of their life or career development. David Mitchell Q: What is your biggest professional accomplishment since receiving this award? D uring my career, I've had several mentors over the years and learned a large amount of valuable lessons from each and every one of them. From emotional intelligence to fostering certain relationships, WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
