It's been said that when Shipyard Brewing Co. moved into a vacant factory building on India Street in 1994 it filled a fleet of Dumpsters. In these cases, it's ground-up construction. Now, Allied-Cook Construction is showing momentum on a project that will house the headquarters of animal life sciences company Covetrus and a "brewtel" hotel being developed by Shipyard Brewing. Covetrus (Nasdaq: CVET), which has 5,500 employees globally, is currently housed at 7 Custom House St., a few blocks away. Across Fore Street, Consigli Construction has the steel up on the future Sun Life Insurance building. Windows are being installed on the Portland Harbor (ames Street) side of the building. When the 77,000-square-foot building opens by mid- 2022, it will house 500 employees and have capacity for 700 employees. Sun Life's site will include the subsidiary FullscopeRMS and its Disability RMS business. e site will also include retail and a boutique hotel. FALMOUTH PROJECTS MOVING FORWARD Two buildings that will bookend the Falmouth Shopping Center are well under- way. Both are four-story buildings, both are being built by the Penobscot Cos. and both are being financed by Machias Savings Bank. e building at the south end of the shopping center is farthest along, with outer walls coming together. It will house a Chase Bank branch on the ground floor, as well as other retail and offices. e building on the north end of the shop- ping center is still in the site-work phase. CONDOS TAKING FLIGHT OVER BACK BAY Elsewhere in Portland, PM Construction is managing work on "218 Washington," which will have 45 luxury condos at 218 Washington St. e condos, which are being built on a steep hill, will have an unobstructed view of the Back Bay. e developer is Hatcher Group. Sales are being handled by Keller Williams. Completion is expected by summer 2022.
