wbjournal.com | July 26, 2021 | Worcester Business Journal 5 B R I E FS Legendary Legacies receives $1.3M grant e relatively new Worcester nonprofit Legendary Legacies in July received a $1.3-million grant from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Bureau of Substance Abuse, in a major expansion of its programing. e nonprofit, founded in 2018, is focused on providing mentorship and life development for young men of color. Funding will go toward the Legendary Links program, which assists Black and Latino men returning home from incarceration and struggling with substance abuse disorder. e program partners with the Worcester County Sheriff 's Office and Worcester House of Corrections to support 50 formerly-incarcerated men for the six months prior and six months aer their release. Plans for the two build- ings include English-as-a-second-lan- guage classes and transition programs for adults with special needs. "We've created a situation where we can be masters of our destinies," said Augustus during the meeting. e city recommends the rest of the Becker campus be sold to a developer who has renovated historical buildings throughout Worcester in the past, said Augustus.
