It is one of five Santand- er locations in the city, and the bank's existing employees at 446 Main St. will shift to the new location. The Spanish banker, whose American offices are in Boston, is departing its location at 446 Main St., the glass office tower known as Worcester Plaza that's slated for renovation. Santander has been at that location since before it was acquired by the Spanish bank and was known as Sovereign Bank, and the company as the lead leasee of the property held significant sway over other tenants and renovations in the glass tower. Worcester Plaza was bought in 2019 by Synergy Investments, a Boston commercial real estate firm planning renovations to the building and eyeing a restau- rant or fitness center for the Santander space. Santander's move is one of two bank moves taking place. Rockland Trust opened its first Shrewsbury location this week at the Lakeway Commons shop- ping center on Route 9.
