The direct-to-consumer company, owned by Eurofins Scientific of Luxembourg, is the first to receive an emergency use authorization for an at-home nasal test for young children, according to empowerDX. The company launched its FDA-authorized at-home COVID test in the fall to consumers 18 years and older. The company's tests are now available without a prescription through the company's website, Amazon, RiteAid and Uber's on-demand delivery service. Holy Cross professor receives $400K to study molecular mixing A chemistry professor at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester has been awarded more than $400,000 from the National Science Foundation to study how molecules mix with each other. The multi-year award to chemistry professor Gaby Avila-Bront was given through the Faculty Early Career Development Program with a total intended award amount of $417,396, according to the NSF, with funding through 2026. Avila-Bront's project seeks to determine how a mixture of different molecules bound to a surface forms a two-dimensional molecular pattern. It is currently not possible to precisely control the composition of a molecular pattern composed of dissimilar molecules on a surface and, prior to mixing, there is no knowledge of what two-dimensional patterns may form or what new properties of the surface will be observed, according to a release from Holy Cross. Framingham firm wins U.S. COVID testing deal Framingham-based Clinical Enterprise, Inc., a Eurofins Scientific company, announced in June it has been awarded a U.S. government agreement to expand national COVID-19 testing. The agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in coordination with the U.S. Department of Defense, will expand testing opportunities in K-8 schools, underserved populations and congre- gate settings such as homeless shelters. The company has been awarded the agreement to test up to 24.6 million people in the Northeast and South. The agreement is one of three gov- ernment agreements designed to expand COVID-19 testing, for a total cost of $650 million, according to the U.S. Department of Defence. NH company acquires Westborough medical device firm Distal Solutions, a medical device company, has been acquired by Resonetics, based in Nashua, N.H. The Westborough company special- izes in the design and development of catheter-based delivery systems and implants, accorinding to Resonetics. Follwing the acuiqsition, the Distal Solutions team, lead by founder David Rezac, will expand and open a new office in Resonetics' San Diego site, in order to enhance the medical technol- ogy market in California. "Adding dedicated design & devel- opment resources on the West Coast is a natural extension of our footprint, and the Distal team is very excited to collaborate more closely with the Resonetics' nitinol center of excellence in San Diego," Rezac said.
