Camden National Bank donated $10,000 to the LifeFlight Foundation to help provide medical support to people across Maine. Puritan's next expansion will be in Tenn. Puritan Medical Products, a Guilford- based manufacturer of COVID-19 swabs, has already built two new factories in Pittsfield in the past year. Now it has made it official that it will build another factory in Orlinda, Tenn. e company received $146.8 million in federal funding to open the factory, which will give Puritan a central U.S. location that is close to an Indiana sterilization plant and closer to West Coast customers. Puritan expects to hire 625 workers over five years after it retrofits a 400,000-square-foot former Dorman auto parts plant. Once it's fully up and running, the plant will have the capacity to add 200 million testing swabs a month to the 100 mil- lion Puritan is already producing in Guilford and Pittsfield. Proposal for a Moosehead ski area moves forward An application for bonds that would raise $135 million to develop a ski resort on Moosehead Lake is before the Finance Authority of Maine. Provident Group-Moosehead Lake L3C has proposed the resort for Big Moose Township, which is in the unorga- nized territory, about six miles north of Greenville. It's the site of a once-thriv- ing resort now run by a nonprofit as a small ski area. e L3C is the devel- opment team of Provident Resources Group, of Baton Rouge, La., in part- nership with Big Lake Development LLC and Treadwell Franklin Inc., headed by Perry Williams, who lives in Louisiana and Spruce Head. e pro- posal for Moosehead Lake Ski Resort includes a new base lodge, a hotel and restaurant complex, pedestrian village, a marina with 150 to 200 slips, and 450 residential units on 1,700 acres. Big Lake Operations would operate the ski assets, except the hotel and restaurant, which will be run by a hotel manage- ment firm. e resort would replace the ski area operated by the nonprofit Friends of the Mountain. FEMA grant to aid vaccination center Northern Light Health has received nearly $1 million in reimbursement for operating the COVID-19 vaccination center at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. e Federal Emergency Management Agency said in a news release it has awarded a grant of $928,706 to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, which stood up the vaccination center in January. e center can provide up to 900 inocula- tions per day. e grant covers a three- month period and pays for a variety of expenses, including the costs of personal protective equipment, materials for handling and administering COVID- 19 vaccines, emergency medical care for vaccine administration and supplies for handling medical waste. e funding was awarded at a 100% reimburse- ment level through FEMA's Public Assistance Grant Program, which reimburses communities for actions taken in the immediate response and recovery activities during a disaster.
