Major League Baseball said March 2 the Triple-A level of baseball, where the WooSox play, will be delayed by a month as top-level teams use alternate training sites as they did during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. e WooSox are now tentatively scheduled to start the season on the road May 4 against the Buffalo Bisons and have their home debut May 11 against the Syracuse Mets. e changes shorten the WooSox schedule to 120 games from 142, including 60 home games, down from 70. e team, which has moved from Pawtucket, R.I., was originally due to play its first game on April 6 and its first home game ever in Worcester on April 13. St. Pierre family sells site of planned 248-unit Shrewsbury development A site spanning more than 10 acres that's sat undevel- oped on Route 20 in Shrewsbury while a housing devel- opment has been planned there for years has sold for $2 million to a Boston development firm. e site at 440 Hartford Turnpike has been proposed as part of a 248-unit development known as e Pointe at Hills Farm in an industrial stretch of town. e project first went for permitting approval in 2015. e new site owner, Boston development firm GFI Partners, didn't return a message seeking comment on e Pointe at Hills Farm development. e St. Pierre fam- ily owned 440 Hartford Turnpike for more than 70 years. Saint Vincent nurses strike begins Saint Vincent Hospital nurses walked off the job early March 8, starting a strike at a time when the Worcester hospital is working to overcome the coronavirus pandem- ic and staff a vaccination clinic but is facing charges it's not doing enough to prioritize patient care. e hospital and the Massachusetts Nurses Association were locked into long-running negotiations that turned tense in recent days aer the union gave a 10-day notice it planned to have nurses strike. Saint Vincent CEO Car- olyn Jackson wrote to the MNA alleging union members said they'd publicly identify nurses that crossed the picket line in what she termed intimidation, and some nurses have shared harassing text messages. e MNA has said Saint Vincent has regularly had unsafe staffing levels, with what it says is more than 600 unsafe staffing reports, including more than 110 this year. It has also cited the financial surpluses for-profit hospital parent company, Tenet Healthcare of Dallas, which had $414 million in profit on more than $4 billion in net oper- ating revenue in the fourth quarter.
