BUILDING BUSINESS BY PETER BY PETER VAN ALLEN VAN ALLEN Congratulations, and thank you to Toby Hammond for an outstanding 44-years of service with Hancock Lumber! The longest tenured Hancock Lumber employee, it's hard to begin to summarize all of Toby's accomplish- ments and the impact he's had on the forest products and building materials industries. A businessman, family confi- dant, and industry-leader, Toby became only the 6 th President, CEO, and Chair- man in the company's history. A lifetime of forest products and retail building materials industry experience, combined with an understanding of the complexities of running a family business, enabled Toby to succeed and set a precedent for leadership and service throughout his career. Toby hails from a large family with deep roots—including three genera- tions—working in the lumber industry. In addition to his work at Hancock, Toby served as President and Chairman of the Board of the Northeast Lumber Manufacturers As- sociation, served on the Board of Directors of the Maine Forest Prod- ucts Council, was appointed by Governor McKernan to the Finance Authority of Maine Board, and the Governor's Citizens' Forestry Ad- visory Board. Locally, he served on numerous boards and continues to help organize the Fryeburg Fair's annual Woodsman Day. Upon his retirement, Toby passes the longest tenured employee ba- ton to Jim Foster, one of our Counter Pros in Saco with 42-years of service and counting. Thank you, Toby, for your leadership and lifetime commitment to Hancock Lumber—you are truly an irre- placeable icon! HancockLumber.com/Culture "It has been an honor and a privilege for me to serve on the Hancock Lumber Board of Directors for more than four decades.
