It includes the Athol Council on Aging and the barber shop Privilege 351, along with upper-floor apartments. e site at 416 Main St. was bought by a limited liability corporation registered to Mark Carbone of New York City. It was sold by RealtyGensis Co., an invest- ment firm based in Manchester-by-the- Sea. e sale closed Dec. 28. Mass General moves on Westborough expansion e Boston healthcare giant Mass General Brigham has filed plans to begin a regulatory review for plans for a new outpatient center to be built on West Park Drive in Westborough. e outpatient center would be part of a new building at 1400 W. Park Drive, in between an existing office including the law firm Mirick O'Connell and a new research-and-development office for the medical equipment company Olympus. Mass General Brigham, formerly known as Partners, doesn't yet have a projected opening date in mind. e Westborough facility is one of three new outpatient centers planned for the outer suburbs of Greater Boston, along Woburn and Salem, N.H. Milford cannabis growing site sells for $5M A nine-acre site eyed for an expansion by Milford medical cannabis cultivator and seller Sira Naturals has sold for $5 million to a firm registered in New York. e property, at 5-7 Industrial Road, is planned for a new cultivation center to support Sira Naturals' retail stores. It stands a short walk from Sira Naturals' existing facility at 13 Commercial Way, and is next door to a Milford Regional Medical Center outpatient medical office and an Amazon distribution warehouse. e buyer of the Milford site is Parker Real Estate, which is registered to an address in New York City. e seller was Corner Brook LLC, a firm registered to the address of Hillview Equipment and Leasing, a firm based next to Sira Naturals on Commercial Way that also owns Sira Naturals' property next door. Corner Brook continues to own another nine-acre site adjacent to the Industrial Road property. e sale closed Dec. 23. Worcester's NAACP swears in new president e Worcester Branch NAACP held its annual election on Jan. 18 and swore in the new leaders during a remote meeting. Among those were new President Fred Taylor, the organi- zation's previous first vice president. Taylor pledged to continue the group's efforts to address systemic racism in the Worcester Police Department, remove police from schools, as well as "to bring political representatives to our city that reflect the faces of our sons and daughters." UMass' Leominster hospital names president Steve Roach, the interim president of UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clin- ton Hospital, which has its main offices in Leominster, has been named to the position on a permanent basis. Roach's appointment keeps him as president of UMass' Marlborough Hospi- tal, a position he's held since 2013. Roach was named HealthAlliance's interim president in the fall of 2019 to succeed Deborah Weymouth. Before joining Marlborough Hospital, he was the CEO of Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer for seven years. N.J. trust pays $1M for 47 Worcester apartments A New Jersey trust has paid just over $1 million for a 47-unit building in Worces- ter's Main South neighborhood, a few blocks from Clark University. e sale, which closed Jan. 4, values each of the building's units at just under $22,000. e new owners, the Robert and Regina Amsel Irrevocable Trust, bought the property at 1002 Main St. from Longfellow Holdings, a Chestnut Ridge, N.Y., firm that owns about 20 apartment properties across Massachusetts. WPI grants $435K to study tuberculosis treatment A Worcester Polytechnic Institute effort looking into tuberculosis treatments was granted $435,000 by the National Insti- tutes of Health to help a research team led by Scarlett Shell, a biology and biotechnol- ogy professor, to study compounds from the sweet wormwood plant, which kills the bacteria causing tuberculosis.
