Norway Savings Bank said it is mak- ing more than 30 donations totaling $100,000 as year-end gifts to nonprof- its in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Oxford, Sagadahoc and York counties. The Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance in Augusta announced that its Place-Based Learning for Elementary Science at Scale project, created in col- laboration with BSCS Science Learning, received a $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation's Discovery Research K-12 grant program. The grant will fund the project for four years. The Finance Authority of Maine in Augusta approved a request by Arctaris Impact Fund LP and Arctaris Opportunity Zone Fund LLC in Chestnut Hill, Mass. for 20% leveraged loan insurance on $9.5 million of funding to construct dark fiber networks in South Portland and Belfast. Arctaris Broadband Company LLC, a related entity, will act as the distribution agent and lessor owning the network while Biddeford Internet Corp., d/b/a GWI, will serve as lessee and build and operate the fiber network in both cities. A $1 million FAME Direct Loan was approved as well, and will be used for post-construction capital expen- ditures and working capital. The Waterville Area Soup Kitchen received a $10,000 donation from Kennebec Savings Bank to assist with start-up costs for the new nonprofit. Skowhegan Savings announced that Jack Ducharme, vice president re- gional community banker of Somerset County, retired after 20 years of ser- vice to the bank.
