for its first-in-Maine, land-based
aquaculture project.
On Nov. 19, the Maine Board of Environmental Protection
unanimously approved Nordic Aquafarms, Inc.'s Minor Source
Air Emissions License, Maine Pollution Discharge Elimination
System Permit, and Waste Discharge License, and Site
Location of Development and Natural Resources Protection
Act permit for its $500 million facility on a 54-acre site off
U.S. Route 1. In September, the Bureau of Parks and Lands
approved the submerged lands lease for the project.
Let these critical steps be the first of many successes in
Nordic Aquafarms, Inc.'s endeavor to shift the paradigm for
finfish aquaculture in Maine.
