How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted your organization? How have your organization's fundraising efforts, giving opportunities and volunteer opportunities changed as a result? At the onset of the pandemic we quickly mobilized our response effort on two fronts. We launched United Way's local emergency relief fund, Neighbors in Need, providing individuals and families with food, rental and utility assistance, personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies and materials to support at-home learning for youth. United Way Neighbors in Need awarded $572,000 to 46 nonprofit organizations serving nearly 8,000 individuals in central and northeastern Connecticut. We also partnered with local United Ways and quickly established the Connecticut United Ways COVID-19 Response Fund, demonstrating the strength of our network statewide. Funds have provided direct, short-term financial aid to those in need, including people who lost jobs or were furloughed. Connecticut United Ways raised more than $1.1 million, providing financial assistance for food and other basic household necessities to helping 5,000 people statewide, including 1,000 in our service area. We also continue to reimagine volunteer and employee engagement opportunities through virtual opportunities. How have the services you provide to the community changed in response to the COVID's impact? Have you developed new and far-reaching services/support? Respond United Way 2-1-1, Connecticut's information and referral service continues to field questions about COVID-19, financial help, counseling, food and housing assistance. In partnership with the City of Hartford, Trinity Health Of New England, Hartford HealthCare, we launched a coordinated public health education campaign to educate residents on minimizing the spread of the coronavirus by social distancing, wearing face masks, hand hygiene; and, giving guidance about when and how to access health services. Financial stability resources like VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) were adapted to online and remote services. We also launched a financial education public awareness campaign regionally and statewide connecting people with free, virtual financial coaching on dealing with creditors, finding resources, managing money and building savings. Recover We're working with municipalities and regional partners on recovery plans for education, employment, economic development, health, and human services. Reimagine and Rebuild We developed virtual volunteer opportunities to support distance learning for children and youth; reduce social isolation for the elderly and recognize essential workers. We innovated employee engagement and workplace giving campaigns to connect people with causes they care about through online giving platforms such as Salesforce.org Philanthropy Cloud, along with virtual events and volunteer experiences. We created an emergency response portion of our website where people could give help, get help and access important COVID-19 related resources (www. unitedwayinc.org/emergency-response/).
