The Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland received a total of $1.3 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to conduct research and modeling on climate, eco- nomic, ocean and ecosystem changes in the Gulf of Maine and inform fisher- ies of shifting weather patterns. Maine Medical Center's Research In- stitute in Portland received a $203,000 grant sub-award from West Virginia Uni- versity for a National Institute of General Medical Sciences initiative to create a centralized national data platform that scientists can use to study COVID-19 and identify potential treatments. The National COVID Cohort Collaborative is a partnership among more than 35 institu- tions that are funded by the National In- stitutes of Health, including the Clinical and Translational Science Awards. Southern Maine Health Care in Bidd- eford and Maine Behavioral Healthcare in South Portland announced that they are opening two new behavioral health units at the Sanford Medical Center that will triple the number of short-stay behavioral health beds available in York County. In addition, the medical center emergency department has expanded to include dedicated emergency psychi- atric services and rooms. Biofine Developments Northeast Inc. in Portland and Sprague Resources LP in Portsmouth, N.H., signed a purchase agreement for the production and mar- keting of ethyl levulinate, an advanced biofuel that transforms waste material into zero emission heating fuel. Riding To The Top in Windham said its virtual Triple B event — Boots, Band & BBQ — raised $140,000 to support clients, horses and programming. Three Maine dollar stores are sold Dollar General stores in Milford, Lime- stone and Bingham have changed hands for a total of $4.6 million. Customers will likely see no difference at the stores.
