he Steele Canvas Basket
Corporation, based in
Chelsea, MA is America's
oldest continuously-operating
manufacturer of baskets, tote bags,
and other canvas products. Founded
in 1921, Steele Canvas brings
quality American-made products to
customers within the United States
and around the world.
Steele Canvas, a family-owned
company, is led by brothers John
and Paul Lordan and is staffed by
over 80 full-time employees skilled
in a variety of disciplines: from
cutting and sewing to metal and
woodworking.
Steele Canvas' baskets can
be found removing debris on
construction sites, moving college
students into dorm rooms, staging
scenes in Hollywood, and shuttling
equipment for professional sports
teams. Steele Canvas consumer
products are found in toy rooms and
laundry rooms, fashion boutiques,
and art projects.
In 2020, Steele Canvas was able
to pivot production to meet the
needs of frontline workers and
first responders; producing over
140,000 masks, 50,000 of which
were donated to agencies and
organizations in need of protective
equipment.
