2020 Massachusetts Manufacturing Awards 15 f (x) foods (pronounced "function" foods) is a Certified Women's Business Enterprise located in Boston, MA, and founded by Concord native Sophie Gechijian. Sophie started f(x) foods in 2018 because she could not find nutrition bars on the market that met three requirements: functional, tasty, and healthy. Seeing this gap, Sophie decided she would fill it. While still working full-time in finance, Sophie began experimenting in her home kitchen, innovating, and then adapting granola bar recipes and bringing in samples to her colleagues for feedback. She continued baking through nights and weekends for months until finally perfecting her first product, brain food. Full of dark chocolate, almonds, and coconut, this 11-ingredient nutrition bar meets the f(x)s' three requirements for functional, tasty, and healthy foods. Now accompanied by a second bar, heart food, these two bars are the center of f(x) foods brand and continue to be manufactured locally in Boston. f(x) foods products are now available in stores and coffee shops throughout Massachusetts, New York, California, and a handful of other states as the company continues to expand its market. During the COVID-19 pandemic, f(x) foods donated over 4,000 bars in a fundraising effort for the Greater Boston Food Bank. Their leadership continued this summer in a Black Lives Matter focused fundraising effort for Rosie's Place. Still, only a start-up, f(x) has donated over $10,000 worth of product this year. f(x) foods City/Town: Boston Total Employees: 8 Year Company Founded: 2018 Company Website: fx-foods.com Nominated by: Representative Tami L.
