22 2020 Massachusetts Manufacturing Awards
"Jaju" or dziadziu ('grandfather'
in Polish) was inspired by and
named after our grandfather.
S
ixty years ago, their Jaju
started a Polish food business
in Western Mass. Pierogi were
a regular item on their dinner plates,
something they took for granted.
When they moved to Boston, pierogi
became more difficult to come by,
and they had to wait for their mom's
deliveries from the family store.
Friends started asking, "Hey,
where did you get those?", and they
would laugh, for a while they thought
we should start a pierogi business.
Finally, in 2015, they dusted off their
grandfather's recipes and got to
work on the kitchen table, tinkering
away and sampling with their friends,
and Jaju Pierogi was born beginning
to sell their pierogi at farmers'
markets in the Winter of 2016.
They've grown quite a bit since
then, with distribution in stores
across the Northeast. But you'll
still see the two sisters on the road,
at events, and sampling at stores.
Not only was their grandfather a
workhorse, but he also created
lasting relationships with his
community and loved making people
smile. One of their favorite parts
about their business is carrying on
his legacy and sharing that same
enthusiasm for both business and
personal connection
