2 2020 Massachusetts Manufacturing Awards THE GENERAL COURT OF MASSACHUSETTS STATE HOUSE BOSTON, MA 02133 W elcome to the 5th Annual Manufacturing Awards Ceremony hosted by the Legislature's Manufacturing Caucus. It has been reimagined into a virtual ceremony, but our commitment to celebrating "making it" in Massachusetts remains the same. In that spirit, we honor 50 companies in the capstone conclusion to Manufacturing Month. Formed in August 2014, the Manufacturing Caucus includes more than 60 legislators who focus on the renaissance of manufacturing and developing a robust ecosystem including training for employees, encouraging innovation by helping start-ups access resources, and expanding opportunities in key manufacturing sectors. This year, more than ever, "making it" in Massachusetts has taken on new meaning because of the commitment and endurance of our manufacturers. Massachusetts manufacturers have proudly adapted and pivoted in response to the pandemic, producing desperately needed personal protective equipment and other vitally important products for the pandemic response. Our state is home to world-class makers of everything from machinery to biopharmaceuticals to jet engines. Manufacturing output here is at its highest level in history and accounts for about 11 percent of the state's economy. It is the sixth largest employment sector here and $26 billion in manufactured goods are exported from the Commonwealth each year. Roughly 250,000 employees work in the manufacturing sector in Massachusetts, comprising nearly 8% of the total workforce in the state. Massachusetts is an ideal ecosystem for manufacturing. Our world class universities, highly skilled workforce, availability of venture capital and strong government support all come together to create a pro-business atmosphere that fosters a startup ecosystem that encourages manufacturing. As a result, Massachusetts has become a world leader in advanced manufacturing and we continue to work together to make it even stronger. Under the leadership of Speaker DeLeo and Senate President Spilka, and in conjunction with Governor Baker, the Legislature has made thoughtful investments in this sector. We continue to look for ways to improve production and provide high paying jobs for the residents of the Commonwealth. Congratulations to all our outstanding Massachusetts Manufacturers being honored today. They truly exemplify what it means to be "making it" in Massachusetts. We also acknowledge and thank the team at MassMEP for its valued partnership as well as for sponsoring the 5th Annual Manufacturing Awards. The MassMEP team has kept Massachusetts at the top of the heap in manufacturing and without them, this event would not be possible. Jeffrey N. Roy House Chair Eric Lesser Senate Chair
