22 Worcester Business Journal | August 17, 2020 | wbjournal.com At KARL STORZ Endovision, Hamid has decreased the company's annual industrial waste by 43 tons and overseen a 50% three- year reduction in occupational injury rates. During the coronavirus pandemic he helped the company to develop safety protocols for essential employees, including for social distancing, facilitating hygiene and disinfection, wellness screening and personal protective equipment. Hamid hasn't even scratched the surface of his career potential, while already making a demonstrably positive impact on the more than 600 people who work for KARL STORZ. He participates in the company's community service events, including endurance runs and initiatives supporting the United Way of Tri-County, as well as the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Boston. He hosts learning events and fundraisers for the Charlton Fire Department. A hands-on worker, he's known to spend his time on the manufacturing floor, where he works on continuous improvement team projects to upgrade job tasks and standard operating procedures. - M.B. If you could spend 24 hours only in one city in the world, which one would you pick? Next city on my bucket list is Istanbul, Turkey. The idea of a transcontinental city between Europe and Asia is fascinating to me. What is the first thing you'll do after the coronavirus pandemic is officially over? Fly internationally to see my family, then go to the movie theater. Who is responsible for your success? My supportive family and too many colleagues and friends to count. I have been very fortunate thus far in my journey. What is your immediate next goal in life? Continue to touch people's lives on a daily basis, and freedom from student loans. Abed Hamid, 30 Environmental health & safety leader KARL STORZ Endovision, in Charlton Residence: Worcester Birthplace: Kuwait Hometown: Amman, Jordan College: Purdue University Casaceli, a labor and employment attorney, has distinguished himself at the law firm Mirick O'Connell, but that's not a surprise considering how he proved himself before even starting his career. He was recognized as the top political science student at Stonehill College in Easton, where he graduated magna cum laude as an undergraduate, and at Suffolk University Law School, where he graduated summa cum laude, was celebrated as a distinguished oral advocate and named the top bankruptcy law student. Today, Casaceli specializes in employment litigation, representing employers in court or before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in defense of claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, breach of contract, and wage payment violations. At Mirick O'Connell, where Casaceli has worked for more than six years, he's made a mark for himself writing and lecturing on employment litigation matters, including a law blog series aimed at the state's booming craft brewing industry and, more recently, talked about the coronavirus pandemic's effect on the workplace. He's led the firm's summer associate program for the past three years and provided pro bono legal services as part of a partnership between the agency Community Legal Aid and UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester. - G.W. Favorite Central Mass. restaurant? The Flying Rhino. It's not only a fun place for a drink after work, but the Ivory Tusk chicken cheesesteak is out-of-the-world good! What was your hardest career achievement? Making the transition from law student to a practicing attorney. Law school only teaches you so much. Whose career do you want to emulate? The partners in my practice group at Mirick O'Connell. They all set the standard for excellence. Brian M.
