www.HartfordBusiness.com • August 10, 2020 • Hartford Business Journal 23 40 UNDER FORTY 2020 Coping with coronavirus E ach year for our 40 Under Forty awards, Hartford Business Journal typically holds a photo shoot to honor our winners. COVID-19 prevented that from happen- ing this summer. Coronavirus has disrupted many normal routines in 2020, presenting myriad chal- lenges for people aiming to perform at their best. Yet, many of us are still persevering, not only just getting by but outperform- ing expectations despite the difficult environment. That includes HBJ's 2020 40 Under Forty class, which is being highlighted in this special section. The economic uncertainty hasn't sapped the interest in, or qualified candidates for this award. In fact, we had about 120 nominations this year for 40 Under Forty, evidence that our region has a vast young talent pool. As a state, we must do everything in our power to keep them here. It's important to spotlight these accomplished young professionals in order to show others that starting and making a career here can pay dividends, both profes- sionally and personally. And that's the purpose of 40 Under Forty. Every year for the last 24 years, Hartford Business Journal, with the help of our independent judges, has selected 40 top young pro- fessionals who are leading their respective organizations. Our 2020 winners hail from the private, public and nonprofit sectors, and from organizations both small and large. We'd like to thank this year's judges (Anthony Price, Wilson Camelo and Kim Bishop) for helping choose our winners. The theme of this year's awards is "Coping with coronavirus," and we asked each of our winners how they've dealt with challenges presented by the pandemic. You'll see their responses online at HartfordBusiness. com, which will feature an expanded award's section. And if you think you have what it takes to be part of a future 40 Under Forty class, we ask that you submit a nomination next year. This award is only as strong as the class of individuals who are nominated for it. And many nominees represent the promising future of our city, region and state.
