The wind turbines on Vinalhaven were a controversial addition to the island of 1,343 people in 2009. But, replacing an aging power cable, the Fox Islands Electric Cooperative's three turbines produce enough electricity to power Vinalhaven and its neighbor North Haven. First municipal solar landfill project in Maine completed in Belfast in 2015.
