PAID ADVERTISEMENT Hydropower: Side by side with wind and solar Cleaner together The Clean Energy Corridor will provide clean hydropower to all of New England. Over the long term, this renewable energy from Maine's neighbor to the north will help support other clean energy sources in Maine, such as wind and solar. Because wind and solar are intermi•ent energy sources that are dependent on weather conditions, they require a stable energy source to complement them. Water stored in reservoirs can be used to produce electricity when it is needed, providing a reliable and flexible source of clean energy when intermi•ent renewables are unavailable. "Expanding transmission capacity enables greater use of hydro reservoirs as a balancing resource, which facilitates a greater and more efficient use of wind and solar energy." —MIT study, February 2020
