The Department of Housing and Urban Development's Public Housing Operating Fund awarded a total of $2.5 million to 19 Maine housing authorities to help prevent, pre- pare and respond to COVID-19 in public housing. The Department, through the supplemen- tal appropriations bill as part of the CARES Act, also awarded a total of $4.3 million to the state of Maine in the second installment of funding to support affordable housing, reduce homelessness and bolster COVID-19 prevention and response efforts. The Maine College of Health Professions in Lewiston received $337,554 of the $2.9 million that Maine institutions of higher educa- tion recently received in funding through the CARES Act. Additional recipients included: University of Southern Maine, $228,184; University of Maine at Machias, $206,444; College of the Atlantic, $196,615; Washington County Community College, $158,551; Southern Maine Community College, $142,778; Husson University, $131,132; University of Maine at Farmington, $105,125; Central Maine Community College, $91,544; Eastern Maine Community College, $69,965; University of Maine at Augusta, $65,921; Kennebec Valley Community College, $48,170; Unity College, $40,007; Thomas College, $37,929; Northern Maine Community College, $31,932; University of Maine at Fort Kent, $31,095; University of Maine at Presque Isle, $30,140; York County Community College, $27,422; and Maine College of Art, $24,901. MaineSpark awarded grants totaling $20,000 to Oxford Hills Community Education Exchange, Project Launch, Rural Aspirations and the University of Maine at Machias to support initiatives promoting post- secondary success for underrep- resented student populations. The grants were made possible with sup- port from the MELMAC Education Foundation and Educate Maine. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded a total of $4.7 million to 18 health cen- ters throughout Maine to purchase, administer and expand capacity for COVID-19 testing. Recipients included: Penobscot Community Health Center, $1.1 million; Healthreach Community Health Centers, $513,739; Katahdin Valley Health Center, $336,769; Pines Health Services, $326,134; Health Access Network Inc., $265,624; Portland Community Health Center, $232,339; Fish River Rural Health, $205,429; D.F.D. Russell Medical Center Inc., $202,789; Bucksport Regional Health Center, $197,449; Sebasticook Family Doctors, $184,624; Sacopee Valley Health Center, $182,794; York County Community Action Corp., $179,104; Eastport Health Care Inc., $158,014; Saint Croix Regional Family Health Center, $146,974; Regional Medical Center at Lubec, $145,024; Harrington Family Health Center, $143,914; Islands Community Medical Services Inc., $120,994; and Maine Mobile Health Program Inc., $116,224. The Department also awarded $3 million to the state of Maine through the CARES Act for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides funding to help low-income households pay their energy bills.
