The insurtech accelerator, run by London-based Startupbootcamp and funded by Cigna, Travelers Cos. and The Hartford, was initially designed as a three-year program to lure new talent and technology to downtown Hartford for periods of three months with hopes they would establish a permanent presence in the state. Dawn LeBlanc, the accelerator's managing director, told HBJ the program submitted a proposal to continue beyond the contract's expiration, but the insurers are not yet sure if they would like to continue due to uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. UConn could lose $121M if fall semester is online only UConn could lose up to $121.6 million next fiscal year if the university's campuses remain largely closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. UConn President Thomas Katsouleas said the school will already lose a net of $20 million (when the $10.7 million the school received from the federal CARES Act is factored in) this fiscal year. In a worst-case scenario, where UConn is still fully online for the entire fall, 2020 semester, the school would lose about $121.6 million, which factors in the loss of significant international and out-of-state students, according to administration projections. S. Windsor's Carla's Pasta temporarily closes for maintenance Carla's Pasta in South Windsor temporarily closed for two weeks beginning April 27, for equipment maintenance. The 200,000-square-foot facility that makes pasta, sauce and other food products typically closes for maintenance for a couple weeks each summer, but is moving up the annual work amid a slowdown in business due to the coronavirus pandemic. Significantly more than half of the company's customers are restaurants, which have all closed due to COVID-19. More than 100 of Carla's Pasta's approximately 240 employees will be furloughed until the plant's planned reopening on May 11. The company has not had issues with a COVID-19 outbreak at its plant like other food manufacturers across the country, an official said. Hartford townhome redevelopment to debut 75 units this summer The initial phase of the Westbrook Village revitalization project — designed to transform one of Hartford's last remaining North End housing projects into a thriving mixed-use community — is slated for completion this summer after about 14 months of construction. The 40-acre community bordering Albany Avenue will be named Village at Park River. Phase one of the multi-phase project will include 75 attached one-, two-, and three-bedroom townhouse- style homes equipped with modern kitchens, appliances (including a dishwasher), washer and dryer, and central air conditioning. Amenities will include a community room and fitness center, among others. Sixty units will be set aside for households with incomes up to 60% of the area median income; the rest will be leased at market rate. The second phase of construction has already begun, and will eventually include 60 units.
