CONNECTICUT HEALTH CARE: LEADERSHIP IN A TIME OF CRISIS
Through these challenging times, Harvard Pilgrim Health
Care remains steadfast in our commitment to support and
care for our members, and our top priority will always be to
ensure the health and well-being of our members, employees
and the communities throughout Connecticut that we are so
proud to serve.
We recognize that the role Harvard Pilgrim plays in the
health care system is more essential now than it has ever
been. Thanks to our dedicated employees, who are working
remotely, the pandemic has not impacted our ability to serve
our members and customers. Our business continuity plan en-
sures that our members will continue to receive the seamless
service that we have been providing for over half a century.
To remove any potential barriers for those seeking treat-
ment, Harvard Pilgrim, in conjunction with the health insur-
ance industry, waived member cost sharing (copays, deduct-
ibles, and coinsurance) associated with COVID-19 treatment.
This action allows our members needing treatment to focus
on what really matters — getting healthy.
While you're taking important health measures like social
distancing and frequent hand washing, you can also protect
yourself and others by using telemedicine services if you are
sick. Telemedicine allows you to call or video chat with a li-
censed health care provider so you can avoid crowded waiting
rooms and reduce potential exposure to infections. Telemedi-
cine is available to our members with no out-ofpocket costs.
During these trying times, you understandably may be
grappling with stress and worry. We've adapted our Living
Well program to an entirely virtual platform that is open to
everyone — members and nonmembers alike. Yoga, Zumba®,
guided mindfulness and wellness sessions are available on
our website at harvardpilgrim.org/livingwellathome.
Every decision we make as a company can make an impor-
tant difference in the lives of our neighbors. To support com-
munity organizations affected by the pandemic, the Harvard
Pilgrim Health Care Foundation has donated more than
$3 million to New England based non-profit organizations
caring for our most vulnerable populations. In Connecticut,
we are providing financial support to the Connecticut Food
Bank, Foodshare, as well as the Hartford Foundation's CO-
VID-19 Response Fund.
I would like to thank all our Harvard Pilgrim employees for
their tremendous dedication and hard work during these try-
ing times. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude and
appreciation to the thousands of health care professionals
who are working tirelessly on the frontlines of this pandemic
— they are heroes.
Please be well.
Sincerely,
