Elvgren , President, Elvgren Associates Gail Lebert , Director of Partnership Development, Klingberg Family Centers Megan Torrey , CEO, World Affairs Council of Connecticut Women leaders in times of uncertainty C ompanies more than ever are in need of smart, problem-solving leaders. And increasingly, women are filling those roles. Yes, women are still signifi- cantly underrepresented in C-suite positions, but there is no shortage of effective female leaders in Greater Hartford. That's reflected in Hartford Business Journal's 2020 Women in Business awards, which received a record-breaking 116 nominations. The enthusiasm and energy around this award seems to pick up every year. In the pages that follow we recognize 15 remarkable women who are making a significant difference within their organization and the community. They range from executives in the TV, nonprofit and banking sectors to lawyers, entrepreneurs and, fittingly for these times, a medical director at a major hospital. Our winners also include a leading college researcher, accounting pros and a corporate vice president. In each of the past 18 years, Hartford Business Journal has honored the region's most talented women in leadership roles throughout central Connecticut. The winners are nominated by readers and chosen by a panel of independent judges. This year we'd like to thank Anne L. Elvgren (president of Elvgren Associ- ates), Gail Lebert (director of partnership development, Klingberg Family Centers), and Megan Torrey (CEO of the World Affairs Council of Connecticut) for help- ing choose our winners. The honorees demon- strate business savvy, confidence in themselves and their organizations, and a strong track record of professional success. And like most good leaders, they've also had to adapt to a changing environment. Our Women in Business event was originally sched- uled for May, but was postponed until June 3, because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. So, while each of our honorees are excited to receive this recognition, they are also leading their organiza- tions through turbulent times. We wish them, and all of our readers, good luck and good health. We hope you enjoy this special section and attend the Women in Business celebration, Wednesday, June 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., at the Hartford Marriott.
